This unit delves properly into teaching activities involved in an actual class period. It talks about techniques, including classroom management, topic introduction, activity organization up to observing students while they perform tasks, and offering feedback.
Disparities are made between case studies and problem-based learning. I would prefer to initially give students a general view of the problem to be solved, and have them work out solutions. When the students’ use of grammar has become stronger, I would task them more by having them create the problem scenarios as well as the solutions.
An important point is made on the use of games, which is that games should be proffered as means of illustrating what has been taught, instead of topics being forced to adapt to particular games.
The elaborate teaching examples for three levels of students was really informative and helpful.
I find that I still need further reading on the Speech Act Theory in order to understand how I can apply it during teaching. Reading up on Total Physical Response was insightful.
