This unit generally talks about teaching materials used in classes, the applicable materials and how they can be sourced or created. Further explanation is given on authentic and non-authentic materials, earlier mentioned in unit 2, and how they can be applied. Lesson planning is also treated in-depth with elaborate examples. In the section on book resources and the two main types mentioned, I drew a relationship between them and the Structural and Situational syllabus types.
It is my opinion that a combination of authentic and non-authentic materials within the duration of a lesson will be very effective because while authentic materials are more realistic, the teacher has the opportunity to create non-authentic materials that can offer a lot of flexibility as well as simulating real-life to a greater extent with ideas sourced from authentic materials.
