This unit covers the use of conditionals, direct and reported speech. There are five main conditionals, namely Zero conditional, First conditional, Second conditional, Third conditional and Mixed conditional. For each of these conditionals, there are two clauses, namely the 'if' clause (or similar expressions such as 'when') and the main clause. The unit explains that generally, the 'if' clause contains the condition that has to be satisfied before the action or state in the main clause can be realized. Additionally, the unit provides guidance on teaching ideas that can be applied to these conditionals. Teaching ideas include split sentences, complete the conditional, chain conditionals and so on.
