National Harbor, Maryland TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
In the final unit, unit 20, It touches on some of the most common troubleshooing difficulties teachers will encounter as they pursue their English teaching careers.
The most common troubleshootings are: The first lesson - during the first lessons, the teacher needs to focus on building up rapport with new students and discover their interests/needs/and aspiration in English. Warmers - warmers are used as short, fun, communicative activities to get students motivated to learn English. Different levels of students - some students are stronger and others are weaker with their English skills. Their are different ways teachers can deal with this but most commonly, teachers choose to pair stronger students with weaker one when dealing with such varying students in the classroom. Large classes - this is another problem for teachers and can be very challenging. The teacher should be clear/audible with her instructions and use a lot of pair/group work. Native language - sometimes, students will use their native tongue in the class for different reasons. Their teacher should only respond in English and encourage the students to only use English in class as well. Reluctant students - some students don't want to participate due to cultural reasons or simply because of intimadation or insecurity. The teacher should use different techniques such as pair work, tape recorders, role plays to overcome this but never force the student in the spotlight. Finally, many students of all nationalites have difficulty when it comes to Listening to cassettes (texts). However, the teacher should not be put off by that and continue to repeatedly practice the students' listening skills.
Unit 20 has been instrumental in emphasizing some of the most common troubleshooting problems teachers will face during their English teaching careers.
