This unit gives an overview of the processes involved in course planning during a Business English teaching program. It talks about steps that should be taken in placing students in suitable learning groups depending on their English levels, as well as listing the levels; lists a few types of syllabuses that might aid the teacher in making a suitable design; gives sample tests for level placement and needs analysis; explains the forms of testing, and the importance of course evaluations.
I learnt why it is necessary to perform a needs analysis at the very early stage of meeting the students, and why it should be done before student grouping. However, the level test should be done before the need analysis. Another important knowledge I got from this unit is how to map out a course over the time span allowed, and how to plan the language requirements for each topic.
