Like past and present tenses, the future tense has the four forms of simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous. However, the future tenses are a little more complicated as there are three additional forms that can be used to express the future. The first of these is the going to future tense which takes the form of verb to be in present form + going to + base verb. For example, I am going to study tomorrow. This is one of the most frequently used of the future tenses. The other two structures are when we use the present simple and the present continuous to express future events. The present simple is often used when talking about timetables and schedules, for example, the train will leave at 2pm this afternoon. The present continuous is commonly used to indicate definite future plans or future plans without a timeframe. For example, I am going out tonight or I am leaving you. Some important rules to remember across all tenses when trying to work out which tense is used is that if the sentence lacks "to have," then it cannot be a perfect tense sentence. If a sentence lacks a present participle (verb + ing) it cannot be a continuous tense.
