The lesson about reluctant students was very helpful to know to teach them. When I first joined ESL course, I was one of the reluctant students who was shy and dealing with cultural differences in the classroom. In my country, asking questions usually, consider disrupting the class because the lesson has to be ongoing and teachers expect students know everything that they are learning. I know it is ironic that students are supposed to everything when they first learn the lesson, but Korean culture is very receptive that students are not likely to ask questions. If students ask many questions, other peers would think the students stupid or bother the lesson. I would apply especially to Asian students to do pair work, using a lot of repetition, and role-play. I remember pair work and role play helped to give me the courage to have more participated in class with my peers. Making comfort and safe environment for ELL students and giving them routine that they know what to expect for the next is crucial for teachers to teach them. I have learned very much for the 20 units and I am ready to apply in teaching.
