This unit covered parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, gerunds, conjunctions, articles, etc. This was a very good overview and challenged me to ponder gerunds, prepositions, etc. This can be challenging as sometimes, words in certain contexts can be a different part of speech than they usually are. For example, in the sentence, "i usually go swimming with my best friend and his rather unusual girlfriend", i was challenged with several words and had to think deeply about it. Rather, upon some thought, is definitely an adverb as it modifies the adjective "unusual". swimming is a gerund, and i'm not accustomed to identifying gerunds and so this required some thought. but most difficult for me was identifying "my" and "his". i would assume those to be possessive pronouns, but as they don't replace nouns, but describe them, i could conclude that they are actually possessive adjectives. I enjoyed this overview and thinking critically about parts of speech
