The main concepts in this unit relate to conditionals and reported speech. There are 4 types of conditionals;
1) Zero conditionals which refer to irrefutable/definite results and facts , and where "if" and "when" can be used interchangeably;
2) First conditional which refers to a condition that, when satisfied, will lead to a possible, probable or certain future outcome.
3) Second conditional which refers to a a hypothetical outcome of an unreal/unlikely present or future condition;
4) Third Conditional refers to a purely hypothetical outcome that would have resulted from a hypothetical past action (or not action) condition that could never be satisfied.
There are also a variety of mixed conditionals.
Reported speech is the mechanism by which direct speech is reported and is is governed by rules that determine which tense in direct speech corresponds reported speech.
