This was a useful unit for me, as I am always happy to review the difference between the past perfect and the past perfect continuous tenses. While I feel I can use either tense quite comfortably, I have found it to be quite challenging to describe the difference between the two to students on some occasions. I feel that succinctly the difference between the two tenses can be summarised as "one is used to talk about an action that happened before another action in the past, and the other is used to talk about an action that started before an action in the past and possibly continued afterwards."
