This unit has covered a number of topics relating to the teaching of productive skills such as speaking and writing. As the unit materials have stated, I do feel that writing is an often-neglected part of teaching English as a foreign language. In my prior experience, the courses I have taught were required to be heavily focused on speaking, with writing being taught by other teachers in this course. Hence, I felt generally quite familiar with the setup of speaking activities such as role-plays, discussions and information gap activities. Nevertheless, it was interesting for me to see the different techniques that could be used to teach writing skills. Finally, it was interesting for me to consider the different factors that could affect the teaching of writing in comparison to speaking. The possibility of being able to clarify any issues on the spot allows one to give less priority to accuracy in speaking activities than in writing activities, though I do realize that both accuracy and fluency are fundamental and should be prioritized during different parts of the lesson.
