This unit covers strategies for coping with problems and difficulties that arise in teaching different groups of English learners. The problems, ranging from how to establish rapport with new students and make them feel comfortable to start using English in the classroom, to how to avoid them using their native language in class, are discussed and possible solutions to each is listed. I think this lesson is one of the most important because the first class can be a "make it or break it" for many students, especially adult students; it is the moment in which they decide if the class is going to help them. Establishing rapport and trying to analyze their needs in English is a fantastic use of time in a first class, rather than jumping into grammar or textbook materials.
