So far we have examined past and present tense system and finally in Unit 8, the future tense system is explored. The seven most common usages in the present tense system are focused on and include the following: the future simple, the future continuous, the future perfect, the future perfect continuous, be going + infinitive, the present simple, and the present continuous. Various suggestions for teaching exercises for each form are also introduced.
Although the present simple and the present continuous were already discussed and referenced again here, it’s also nice to have Unit 4: Present Tenses to refer to. Now that all the tense systems have been addressed, I find it interesting examining how they intersect and the challenge of distinguishing one from another and explaining the cross-over (as exhibited here with the present simple and present continuous) to someone learning English as a second language. Hence, this encouraged me to do some further introspection on the relationships between various forms of my own language.
