Unit 20, TroubleShooting talks about common problem situations and how they can be handled. it starts with First lessons where the teacher can be faced with either New groups or Existing group. it is important to establish rapport about the students where they new, the finds out about the students, their interest and language level using activities such as questionnaires/surveys, games eg tell us about, pass the ball etc. Warmers it is important to use warmers such as hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters, memory games etc to get the students attention. Different levels: the teacher can decide to use different materials, same material but different tasks or do nothing etc when faced with different levels. Large classes: the teacher can use pair/group work, choral repetition, use worksheets etc Use of native languague: the teacher should encourage the use of English where appropriate, only respond to English, make sure explanations are clear etc. Reluctant students: use plenty of pair work, use tape recorder, use role play etc. Difficulties with listen texts: the teacher should work with the students to improve their listening skills.
