Unit 7 summarizes how to choose and teach vocabulary, language structure (or grammar) and language functions. Examples of the Engage, Activate, and Study phases of each area are discussed and suggestions regarding lesson design with respect to the current class level are also introduced.
This unit was easier to apply after reviewing some of the ESA lesson examples from Unit 3, which serves as a good reminder that the current content being reviewed should be digested while reflecting over previous lessons so that the content can be understood as a whole. I also learned that the four most important things students need to do with new language include: exposure, understanding the language’s meaning, understanding the language’s construction, and the possessing the ability to produce said language.
