I have just done a research project for my Master's program through a University and also would agree on this type of teaching approach, but would argue that the communicative approach is primarily what you're advocating, but synthesized with project-based learning and some direct teaching grammatical elements. I'm very excited to be teaching this way. There must also be a technological element that can engage learners as well, or an app to learn the language on their own outside of class.
