The receptive skills are listening and reading, because learners do not need to produce language to do these, they receive and understand it. These skills are sometimes known as passive skills. They can be contrasted with the productive or active skills of speaking and writing.
We divide the reading and listening into two categories: for purpose and for entertainment.
For purpose when we have aim or goal and need to find it in any book or can listen it from anywhere.And for entertainment when we do something for pleasure.
Our understanding of reading and listening can be different such as: predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information, deduction from context.
