Unit 15 examines testing as one means of measuring student progress. It also talks about tutorials and peer evaluation as other ways to assess an individual student’s language level. Within the realm of testing, the unit identifies different types of tests along with some examples for implementation.
As a student, tests were usually something that induced personal anxiety. Looking at testing from the opposite perspective, I see it can be a great tool to assess not only the level of understanding of each student individually, but the success of the teaching techniques employed. Perhaps some students need more attention than others, perhaps certain areas need to be covered more thoroughly, and perhaps the teacher needs to engage in different types of lesson plans or activities. Regardless, I hope to emphasize that testing should not be something that causes anxiety, but rather serves as a beneficial benchmark.
