The core principles that i have derived from this unit are the fundamental importance of the attitude of both teacher and learner, and the rapport between the two, to the success of the learning process. Teaching and learning are collaborative activities that rely on a symbiosis between teacher and learner but it is the teacher's responsibility to bring to the process the qualities that will best nurture that relationship. To this end it is the teacher's job to assess when and how to adopt and utilise the various different teaching roles to best suit the learners, taking into account the group's age, their level of English, their cultural sensibilities, the nature of the specific learning task whilst also having regard to the needs of individual students (in as much as possible without neglecting needs of other students or the group as a whole).
