The English language has numerous parts of speech which must be understood in order to be mastered by foreign students. This can be challenging to both teachers and students. Teachers must have a strong understanding of the many parts of speech in order to help students build upon the most simple present tense sentence structures, using nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs, before advancing to more complicated usage of different types of adjectives, adverbs, gerunds, participles, pronouns and conjunctions. From this unit I have had a useful refresher of my own understanding of English grammar.
