This has been an interesting unit as I have been having an internal debate with myself over the question of how to select and use materials for teaching receptive skills, like reading and listening. On one side of the spectrum you can find materials (authentic or not) that closely match the level of your students. On the other, you can present authentic materials to your students and adapt the questions up or down to the students' level. The second option is possible, but after studying this unit, I feel this can only be used for fine tuning after a text close to the student's level is found. I also found it useful to have a reminder in this unit to perform a warm-up, engage-type activity with the students before starting any reading or listening activity, not only to generate interest in the task, but also to activate the students' skimming, scanning and predictive abilities in relation to the text at hand. A short, but good unit!
