In this unit I was aware of the different modals we use to make sentences but rarely think about the reason we use certain ones. I of course knew obvious reasons like requests use May, Can, Could Would and that May is more polite than Can. But the difference between certainty and ability are more difficult to explain. I also feel that phrasal verbs are so popular that we forget that to a non native speaker, breaking down the phrasal verbs still don't explain the meaning. Only with context at memorization can many phrasal verbs be understood. This grammar section helped me realize the struggles students have when trying to understand English.
