This unit focused on productive skills: speaking and writing. As writing skills are often ignored in classrooms, this lesson was particularly useful because it forced me to consider how to better incorporate this important, but often ignored skill. Like the recent units, the most useful part of this lesson came from the task sheet at the end of the lesson, where I was asked to create a lesson plan that includes one free speaking activity. This was a useful exercise as I had to consider the best ways to get students interested and motivated to speaking, as that was the focus of the lesson plan. For my plan, I had students begin by discussing weather and seasons in their country, which I followed with an activity where students had to match seasonal weather data with 4 different countries in the world, first working in groups and then comparing with the class. Following this was a study activity focused on useful vocabulary and terminology for weather patterns and forecasts around the world, and the lesson concluded with a free speaking exercise where students have to discuss / debate their favorite seasons of the world (e.g. summer in a temperate climate, dry season in a tropical climate, etc.)
