This unit reviews basic grammar and sentence structure of the English language. It provides definitions, rules, exceptions, examples, and the promise of a more detailed analysis of some of the concepts to be covered in a later unit. While none of these concepts were new, many had been forgotten or not fully understood, so a refresher was very beneficial.
The English language (grammar, writing, etc.) was always something that came very naturally to me. Although definitions and rules were taught in school, rarely did I remember them long-term since they manifested themselves naturally. It wasn’t until I started to learn a foreign language that suddenly terminology held relevance and I gained a stronger understanding of the structure of the English language. This unit reminded me of that fact, along with the reality that one of the challenges to learning English are the many exceptions to the “rules” of this language.
