Using authentic materials such as manuals,travel brochures, and maps can introduce and clarify vocabulary for specific language acquisition. For example, students who may want to work in tourism will need to know vocabulary related to that field and brochures and maps can help students gain confidence. Authentic materials are only supplements, however.Created materials should be the prime source in the classroom to clarify to the teacher the systematic approach to language acquisition. Progress and checkpoints will be part of the created materials/course work classroom syllabus.
This unit was helpful in showing what types of authentic and created materials can help in the classroom. The idea that authentic materials should be geared specifically was something new I learned.
