This unit covers evaluation and testing. I learned to put testing and evaluation in a better perspective, that is I learned that diagnostic testing is important to use at the beginning of the course - to assess what level students are at, in order to place them at the appropriate group (if the teacher does grouping); and what level of the English course e.g. beginning, intermediate, advance.
The breakdow not assessment is as follows: Tutorial, periodic at the end of the week - to do with the whole group and orally assess by asking students how they are understanding the course and if it is too easy, or moving to fast. Of course there is the progress test and this can be used in a non-threatening manner, as opposed to the school's mandated tests.
Every 2L learner is aware of the external tests. This unit gives a comprehensive analysis of all the exteranal tests that are available - and required from the USA use of the TOEFL to the IELTS used in Asian countries. I am not sure how about the explanation of the other "cambridge" tests used in Britain: TOEIC, KET, PET, FCE, CPE and the certificates that students can test for.
