Unit 11 deals with the receptive skills and how to teach them. First it categorizes them into two groups according to their motives, namely reading or listening for a specific purpose or for entertainment. It then gives the different ways one reads or listens, depending on their needs, for instance skimming, scanning, reading or listening in detail or deduction of the content based on the context. The part that is personally the most helpful is the last one, where we are given tips on how to avoid any problems or confusion in the classroom when we present the materials to the students. Some of them are pre-teaching some of the new vocabulary or choosing a topic that is interesting for the students. But the most helpful example is the outline of how to teach the receptive skills with an ESA patchwork structure. This example not only provides me with a structure that I can follow in the future, but it also gives actual examples of what to do in each stage, which I personally find very helpful. The worksheets at the end are also an additional aid for the future, giving an example of what a reading task should look like (with taking the level of the students into account, of course).
