Broussard, Louisiana TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
In this unit, I learned about equipment and teaching aids. For example, the board is commonly used in classrooms. The writing on the board must be neat. I learned tricks such as sectioning off the board, to designate areas for vocabulary, grammar, and further notes and the use of different colors to highlight particular points. I also learned that capitalized text is more difficult to read. Another teaching equipment is the overhead projector. When I was a student, my teachers used this equipment a lot. I learned that the transparent sheets are called pre-prepared overhead transparencies or OHTs. Its advantages are that it focuses students' attention and are good for correcting writing and showing different layout patterns. OHTs can be effective for timed reading, and gap-fill exercises. However, there are also some disadvantages. Classrooms require a surface that is not covered in sunlight. Dictionaries, course books, photocopiers, computers, and online sources are all important. The unit lists many online sources, each defined by a particular category such as online dictionaries, media, and resources. I learned that online tools are a very extensive and useful tool for capturing students' attention and giving a more comprehensive view of the applications of new vocabulary and grammar patterns. Because of the Internet, videos on Youtube further help student learning at no cost. In terms of technology, the cassette recorder is replaced by CD players and videos/DVDs. Lastly, I found that the video camera can be a good addition to the classroom learning environment: students can complete projects using video cameras on their phones and evaluate their performance.
