This unit gives an actual classroom footage of two different instructions for the same lesson content. Its purpose is to illustrate how teachers have the biggest influence on the success of the lesson. There are two separate videos, one with the poor(er) instructions and another one with a more clear and successful instruction. In the first one the instructor seems distant and not really friendly towards the students. His poorly structured lesson only causes more confusion and intimidation for the students, not giving them the right circumstances to engage and learn new content. On the other hand, in the second lesson the instructor follows a patchwork ESA lesson plan, engaging the students properly and including them in the lesson in a fun way, keeping the students active and willing to work.
These videos are helpful because they allow us to visualize how an actual lesson should look like and what should be avoided. It gives me the feeling as though I was an observer and had the full insight into the classroom and lesson and it allows me to note some common mistakes that an inexperienced teacher could make and then gives another example with how a successful lesson actually looks. I am definitely going to keep going back to these videos as a reference, when I doubt my work or feel like I lack some inspiration.
