Unit 11 reviewed the two receptive skills- listening and reading. The reasons for reading and listening are usually for a purpose or for entertainment, at times it can even be a combination. There are many different ways we can listen and read. For example someone may use their predictive skills, scan for specific information, skim for a general idea, deduct from context, or to understand detailed information. The unit also discussed strategies teachers should use when teaching reading and listening. For example in order to help students with problems in listening and reading a teacher can pre-teach vocabulary and pick a careful selection of texts for students.
