Conditionals are a pretty complex part of the English language. First, it is important to go through the different conditional forms (zero, first, second, third, and mixed). These may seem intuitive as an English speaker, but it is important to go through these carefully. The teaching ideas are very helpful because of this. Splitting sentences, completing the conditional, and chain conditionals where students continue the rest of a conditional sentence are a few ways to help the students to efficiently learn this grammar topic. It is also important to go through how direct speech changes to reported speech. There are a few rules for this that will probably be confusing, so creating a lot of examples and allowing for student role-play activities are two easy ways to help with this confusion.
