In this unit we are looking at ways of evaluating the students' progress as well as common exam types and how to prepare the students for said exams. Giving consistent feedback throughout a course is a way to help students be continually informed about their progress. Sometimes tests and other formal means of assessment can be the way to assess where a student is at. Tests can be used at different stages of a course to periodically test students level. Its the preference of some teachers to give more frequent, but short tests. At the end of each term many teachers will give a long formal test. Placement tests can be useful to assess a students' initial language level for proper class placement. Progress tests are used periodically to gauge progress in a given class. Diagnostic tests are given at the beginning of a course and observe what a student already knows. Practice tests can be a fun exercise to help students prepare for the real thing.
