Receptive language skills (reading and listening) are important because without them a person would not be able to receive information about the world in which they are operating. A teacher should select topics that are interesting to the students, and vary the topics to hold the students' interest. I find this kind of teaching interesting because students can learn about the language and anoutside subject matter at the same time. For instance, the class might discuss an historical figure. Pre-teaching problematic vocabulary is a good party of the study phase. The activate phase can include creative projects where the students come up with their own material about a subject of their choosing.
