There are several theories/methods of teaching to language learners. The end goal of each method is to transmit an understanding of the language, along with the ability to use it effectively. The "ESA" method has been shown to be a generally effective method to teach a second language. This method has three main component parts: (1) engagement, (2) study, and (3) Activation. Engagement gets the students warmed up. Study is where they practice and corrections can be made. Activation is where the students try to use any and all language that they know, with an emphasis on communicating as freely and fluidly as possible.
