The five main conditionals are zero, first, second, third, and mixed. Students often find it difficult to understand the subtle difference between the first and second conditionals. A work sheet involving split sentences would be a good exercise for the study phase of a lesson on conditionals. You can also engage students by asking about conditionals in the form of moral dilemmas or in a "nuclear-bunker" type role play. I think this is one of those areas of English where only continued practice will make perfect. I also think that short progress tests given after the concept is introduced could be helpful.
