This unit about troubleshooting provided insight in dealing with difficulties in different classroom scenarios. When I will approach a first lesson I have to establish if it is a new group or an existing group. New groups are a little more difficult because they do not have preexisting relationships or knowledge of the material. But, either way, these lessons should be used to establish rapport between the students, find out about the students and their needs/levels of English. Sometimes there will be varying levels of students in the classroom so it is important to have a plan with how to deal with this discrepancy. Sometimes the use of different materials for different abilities is helpful, or some teachers use the same material but give the varying levels different tasks to do with the material. There is also the opportunity to pair stronger with weaker students so that they can help each other with the learning. Large classes are difficult when you have to try to involve all of the students, so the use of worksheets, pair and group work, choral repetition, and being clear and concise with lessons are all great suggestions.
