There are advantages and disadvantages to using different types of materials and books in the classroom. There are obvious advantages to using authentic or created materials as they are easily adaptable to the students who you may be teaching. Authentic materials also are great because they can be relevant and interesting, and created materials allow for grading. It is important to think about course books deeply, and what you would want to use them for. If they are supplementary to what you are teaching then a course book can be a good option. However, they are often generalized to a population, rather than personalized to the particular students. This is a huge disadvantage in comparison to the other materials that you can provide as a teacher.
