This unit is dedicated to the discussion of various teaching aids that can be of assistance to teachers such as whiteboards, overhead projectors, visual aids, worksheets and workcards, course books, resource books, and other materials. As a bare minimum most classrooms should have a black or white board of some type to write words on. If there is no board available a flipchart can also be acceptable. Boards are very effective at holding the attention of students. It is important for a teacher to write legibly and neatly so the students can easily read what is written. It can also be useful to section of different areas of the board for different purposes such as vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation. Interactive whiteboards with sensors inlaid behind the board itself are become more available in certain private and public classrooms as the technology that can assist teachers advances. It is important however to test the interactive whiteboard and have a backup plan in case there is a technical problem. Overhead projectors may be another option depending on what is available to the teacher. Teachers can pre-print transparent overhead sheets with the lesson materials.
