I have learned that it is important for a student to have a strong understanding of formal and informal speech. It is easy for me to see the difference in impression made between an active voice and a passive voice. An active voice identifies the agent responsible for a circumstance or event. A Passive voice is not focused on identifying any agent but rather the event itself. I believe that students must learn this because it can make the difference between being offensive or not while communicating with others.
