Although lesson planning is vital, it need not be overly rigid. A teacher should have the ability to adapt "on the fly" given what is happening in the classroom. It might even be a good idea to have a backup plan if the first approach to a lesson is not working. A lesson plan is a road map but not an exact script. The end goal is always the same: an engaged, fun, and spirited class. I think it would be a good idea to talk with more experienced teachers who have taught the exact lessons you are working on to get an idea of what does or doesn't work.
