Conditionals relate to sentences containing if or when. There are generally five types of conditionals that we will teach as foreign language teachers. These are Zero conditionals, first conditionals, second conditionals, third conditionals and mixed conditionals. Each form refers to a something that is a consequence of something else. In reported speech, or indirect speech, something that someone has said through direct speech is being related to a third party. This obliges the person reporting to make appropriate changes through back shifting and changing the pronouns.
