Phonology is the emphasis on sounds and their properties that typically have to do with the stress, rhythm, and intonation of a word or phrase. Intonation is typically the variation of volume or pitch within a sentence. Intonation carries the intention of the sentence and is typically used in questioning, agreeing/disagreeing, and confirming. The normal pattern of intonation is the rise/fall pattern, but the fall rise/pattern can be used in questioning or disagreement.
Stress is an important part of phonology because it helps us interpret a sentence. One word can only have one stress, and we are only able to stress syllables, not vowels.
