There is a wide variety of materials which can be used in a classroom to aid the process of teaching and learning. Before doing this unit, I did not consider the fact that over-use of a tool may be demotivating and ineffective. I also did not consider planning (in detail) what you put on the board beforehand. The computer and other modern technology (video cameras, cellphones, online resources, interactive whiteboards, etc.) have begun to dominate the sphere of teaching, but are not always available due to costs involved. Other 'older' tools such as photocopiers, overhead projectors, worksheets, resource books, course books, etc. must not be under-valued as they can be used effectively, and definitely should be familiar to the teacher as they may need to be used as a backup when technology fails. Proper planning when using any material is crucial, and this includes testing the material and adapting it for students and the teaching situation where necessary.
