Conditionals, sentences containing 'if,' are used for many different reasons. We can organize these reasons by the five main conditionals: zero: used for actions and facts that are irrefutable, first: used for talking about a real situation in the future that is possible, probable, or even certain, second: used for communicating a present or future unreal/hypothetical situation that is unlikely to ever be true, third: used to refer to a hypothetical past action/non-action and the hypothetical past consequence, and mixed: used for a hypothetical past action/state and the hypothetical present consequence. Before this unit, I had never seen conditionals laid out like this before, so easy to understand. Not only was this covered, but how the tenses shift and the difference between reported and directed speech were also covered. This lesson was very helpful in pointing out the subtle differences that will be easily mistaken in classes.
