This unit focuses on classroom management. In order to effectively relay the lessons that we must teach, the classroom must be running smoothly so that all the students hear and understand the information being given. Classroom management might make one think of discipline, but it is much more than that. Managing the class also involves keeping the students’ attention, interested in class, getting them to speak when they need to and to stop as well. To do that, one might have to use different gestures, change how they speak and use eye contact when needed. How one arranges the students’ desks, whether it be in rows, in groups or in a circle is going to affect how the students pay attention to class and the activities they must do. Also, the way they do group work can also affect how smoothly the class runs and I think you will learn with each of your classes how they should be grouped and seated as you get to know them, and individually. Building a good rapport with your students will not only make your class more enjoyable for everyone, it will help avoid problems with students possibly disrespecting the teacher, thus avoiding behavior problems.
