This unit explored conditionals and reported speech. Before completing this unit, I did not know that conditionals may be categorised into 5 types: zero conditional, first conditional, second conditional, third conditional and mixed conditional. The conditional sentence is split into two main clauses: the 'if' clause which contains the condition and the main clause with contains the consequence. Either clause may be first, and 'when' may be used in place of 'if' in the zero conditional without changing the meaning of the sentence. Direct speech refers to the direct words of a person and reported speech is the rephrased or reported form of someone's direct words. There are a number of changes which occur with this change such as a change with pronouns, time expressions, verb tenses, etc.
