This unit outlines the structures and usages of conditionals as well as looking at direct and reported speech. It covered the five conditionals and provided me with some good teaching ideas that i can use in the classroom. It also goes into detail about when we use reported speech and the changes that occur when changing direct speech. It is important for the teaching to have a clear understanding and effective teaching techniques when relating to changes with tenses, pronouns and time expressions in reported speech. There are a number of possibilities for errors that could arise. It is important to slowly introduce each concept step by step. I would begin by engaging students by doing a review on tenses on the board and giving examples before moving onto pronouns and time expression. They must understand the basic concepts before moving onto raported speech. As this could be a challenging unit for both the teacher and students. It would be a good idea to provide charts of the principal changes in reported speech as well as worksheets on changing sentences from direct to reported speech. Once the student have a better understanding you can then move on to role-play or other fun activities.
