This unit has been very helpful in reminding myself about the complexities of speech. Pronunciation is key to accomplishing the authentic accent of a native english speaker, and many people around the world do desire this. When I was teaching in China, the main concern of the kids' parents would be their pronunciation and if they would speak out at every possible moment. Unfortunately, many children didn't desire to learn english whatsoever, and would either forget what we had learned or didn't have the motivation to speak outside of class. In other countries, this was a different story, as the pressure on children to learn a second language was more so relaxed. I often model the sounds of words with my mouth and make sure to exaggerate the main sounds heard if students have a hard time pronouncing or understanding what I've said. This component is also an important piece of the learning experience to learn english.
