Unit two begins to form foundational and practical components for being ale to teach English. It may not be necessary to have comprehensive knowledge of grammar to teach English, but a teacher needs to have an extensive grasp of the parts of speech. This unit lays out the eight primary parts of speech, gives a brief definition, explains proper usage, provides examples, and gives a short list of exceptions to the normal rules for each part of speech. As a native English speaker I was familiar with the majority of the information, except the gerund: the 'ing' form of a verb used as a noun. I reviewed the information on the gerund several times, but I will need to do some more in-depth study to attain a better understanding of this part of speech and its usage.
