Unit 11 introduces the four basic skills of any language, focusing on the two receptive skills: reading and listening. It provided me with example of teaching techniques, ESA lesson structures and sample exercises. As well as outlining the different reasons and how we read and listen. This unit outlined keys to a successful receptive skills lesson; how to create interest by carefully choosing topics and tasks based on your students. Using current topics relevant to student interests will build individual confidence and ensuring you begin a class with a fun engaging practice stage. It also discusses where most problems with listening and reading occur and ways to approach language difficulty. I enjoyed the review and practice of ESA lesson plans and example receptive skills lesson and worksheet samples.
